Class 100(4) A portable or like typewriter has a one piece frame of aluminium preferably die-cast including an arcuate segment 2, for mounting intermediate levers 5, inclined at an angle of 5 to 10 degrees to the horizontal. Type bars 4 are pivoted at 15 in an arcuate comb or segment 33. Both segments are mounted at their ends in brackets 10 fitting on seatings 27, 271 of the frame. The intermediate levers are all identical in form except for the position of the pivotal hole of a front link 9 which is varied so that all keys require the same striking force. The position of the pivotal hole of the links 9 in key levers 7, which are pivoted at 16, are correspondingly varied to keep the links vertical.
