859,654. Steering vehicles. CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO. April 23, 1959 [Feb. 13, 1959], No. 13832/59. Classes 79(4) and 79(5). A tractor has steerable wheels 12 at the ends of an axle 14 mounted to oscillate relative to the tractor frame 10 on a central pivot, the wheels being steered through tie rods 30, a drag link 28 and a lever 29 pivoted on a part which is fixed with respect to the frame 10. The lever 29 is pivotally connected by a pin 35 to a bracket 36 secured to a cover 37 for one of a pair of trunnion bearings 18, 19 in which the axle can oscillate. A link 24 suspended on levers 23, 25 connects the drag link 28 with the steering box 22. The tie rods 30 have a crossed connection with the lever 29 so that the wheels have different turn angles and toe in slightly when the axle oscillates. Specification 855,051 is referred to.
