Abstract

859,582. Stud and socket fastenings; hinges and pivots; stays. BOULTON & PAUL Ltd. Dec. 9, 1958, No. 39695/58. Classes 44, 65(1) and 65(2). A window or like stay comprises an arm 1 having an integral ball or socket formation 7 adjacent one end, and a fixing bracket 3 having a complementary formation 6, at least the ball or the socket being of resiliently flexible material, e.g. plastic, to enable the pivotal coupling to be sprung together or apart. The arm has a number of sockets 8 engageable in a similar manner with the enlarged head 9 of a fixed post 10; the sockets 8 may be closely spaced so as to run into one another, or one or more sockets may be extended in the longitudinal direction of the arm so that the latter can move longitudinally relative to the post while remaining captive thereon. Preferably the post 10, arm 1 and bracket 3 are all made of plastic; alternatively, the post and bracket may be made of another material, e.g. metal. To prevent accidental disengagement of the arm and the bracket, the end of the arm is provided with an arcuate shoulder 12 which lies under a shoulder 13 (not shown) on the bracket when the stay is in use. Specification 859,583 is referred to.
