In a raking device of the kind comprising rake wheels mounted in echelon formation obliquely to the direction of travel of the device, lifting means are provided for raising all the rake wheels simultaneously from the ground for transport purposes, by turning them about a horizontal axis set at an angle to the axes of rotation of the rake wheels. One construction of raking device in which the invention is embodied is described in Specification 859,235, or alternatively the device may be as illustrated in Figs. 5 and 6. The rake wheels 124-127 are mounted in pairs on shafts 118 and 119 rotatably mounted in sleeves 116 and 117 carried by arms 114, 115 which are slidable in a hollow horizontal beam 113. The beam 113 is supported by a forwardly extending shaft 112 mounted for rotation in a tube 110 which is connected to a tractor 81 so as to be adjustable about a vertical axis relative to the direction of travel of the device. Thus by turning the shaft 112 through 180 degrees relative to the tube 110 the device can be adapted to operate as a tedder, and if, in addition, the shafts 118 and 119 are rotated through 180 degrees in the sleeves 116, 117 the device will operate as a swath turner. The tube 110 is also rotatable about the horizontal axis defined by the stub shafts 97 and 98, by operation of the lifting mechanism illustrated in Fig. 6. The mechanism comprises a cranked handle 143 mounted on the draw bar 89 of the device, and provided at its end 142 with a screw thread to co-operate with an internally threaded sleeve 145 pivotally mounted between rods 100 and 101 which form part of the means of connection between the rake and the tractor a tension spring 130 extending between an eye on the rod 100 and an apertured strip 128 on the tube 110. Thus by turning the handle 143, the distance between the points 102 and 138 is varied, thereby pivoting the tube 110 about the above horizontal axis and raising or lowering the rake wheels.
