Abstract

859,138. Cycle shelters. CHAPMAN, J. L. Feb. 28, 1957 [Feb. 28, 1956], No. 6119/56. Class 20(1) A cycle or like shelter is formed of a plurality of longitudinally spaced ferro-concrete frame members, each comprising a vertical pillar 1, a foot 2 at rightangles to the pillar, and an upwardly sloping rafter 3, all cast in one piece. The framework of the double-sided shelter shown in Fig. 2 comprises a plurality of the above members arranged back-to-back in pairs and bolted to the ground, the end members being reinforced by pre-cast concrete brackets 14. The spaces between the rafters 3 is bridged by purlins 4 which support the roofing material of the shelter. Each pair of frame members is spaced apart by distance pieces 18 which may be separate from the members, or may be in two halves, one half connected to each member. Guttering is supported in the space between the two rows of frame members and is connected at one or both ends with vertical rainwater pipes. A singlesided shelter may be constructed by erecting one row of frame members spaced from a wall by the distance pieces 18, the guttering then fitting between the lowest purlin and the wall. The feet 2 instead of standing on the ground as shown in Fig. 2, may, together with suitable foundations, be sunk below ground level.
