Abstract
859,123. Soldering. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. April 12, 1957 [April 14, 1956], No. 12033/57. Class 83 (4). [Also in Group XXXVI] An electrode is alloyed to a semi-conductor body with the aid of a jig, that part of which is in contact with the alloyed material being made of chrome-iron alloy. The jig consists of a holder 1 and plate 2 which supports a gilded molybdenum plate 4 to be soldered to a germanium disc 5 by means of a solder containing 90% tin and 10% antimony. Disc 5 is held in place by plates 6 and 7 which form part of the jig. Plate 7 is composed of 25% chromium and 75% iron and defines a space for a pellet 8 of 95% indium and 5% gallium. Plates 6 and 7 are provided with lugs to fit in holder 1. The assembly is heated to solder disc 5 to plate 4 and alloy pellet 8 to the germanium disc 5. The jig, or the chrome-iron alloy part thereof may be covered with an oxide film.
