Classes 29 and 64(2) The temperature within an insulated vessel is maintained constant with the aid of a pilot bulb 1 (of a temperature - responsive element), mounted within the insulation 5 on the outside of the vessel wall 6. In the case of a cooling vessel, e.g. for maintaining a liquid at a temperature just above its freezing point, the tube 2 from the bulb 1 may be connected to a switch controlling the flow of coolant in a circuit, but the vessel may be for heating. The bulb is supported by insulating spacers 4 in a metal tube 3 which is closed by a removable plug 7 and which may be located, in the insulation .5, away from the wall 6. The bulb is said to sense external temperature changes before the vessel's contents are influenced by the changes, so for rapid detection of changes in the vessel a second sensing device is located in the vessel.
