Abstract

858,765. Carburetters. FICHTEL & SACHS A.G. Aug. 6, 1957 [Aug. 4, 1956], No. 24731/57. Class 7(3). [Also in Group XXXI] When the speed of a vehicle engine rises above a predetermined value the clutch is automatically engaged and is prevented from becoming disengaged while the vehicle is travelling at more than a predetermined speed. The clutch is automatically disengaged during gear shifting by a switch which is closed whenever the gear lever is moved to open a solenoid valve between the intake manifold and a suction cylinder for actuating the clutch. When the vehicle is stationary or travelling below the predetermined speed, the clutch remains disengaged until the engine speed is sufficient to propel the vehicle without danger of stalling and to actuate the clutch centrifugally or electromagnetically. Once the vehicle reaches the predetermined speed, a speed-responsive switch 37 is opened to deenergize a solenoid 33 and permit a spring 48 to displace an abutment 46 so that the butterfly valve is prevented from returning to the position in which the engine speed would be low enough to disengage the clutch. The drag of the engine is thus always available for braking purposes. The switch 37 is in series with the ignition switch 36, and in a modification, is in parallel with a switch which is closed whenever the brake pedal is applied so that the full engine drag is available until the clutch disengages. Specification 767,864 is referred to.
