Abstract

848,250. Clutch control. FICHTEL & SACHS A.G. Dec. 4, 1957 [April 12, 1957], No. 37767/57. Addition to 804,525. Class 80 (2). In a motor vehicle having a clutch 1 engaged by engine-speed responsive means and disengaged by suction, air or oil pressure, servo 3 during gear shift, and wherein during such servo disengagement the engine speed is increased above that required for speed-responsive disengagement by partly opening the engine throttle 8, as described in the parent Specification, vehicle-speed responsive means 9 prevents such engine-speed increase below a predetermined low vehicle-speed (15 k.p.h.) to facilitate gear engagement. In the suction energized form shown, energization of a solenoid valve 5, during gear shift, directs engine-manifold depression 4 to the clutch-release servo 3 and, through a branch 6, to a diaphragm 12 which partly opens the engine throttle 8 unless vehicle speed is below the predetermined value, whereupon a switch is closed by an output-driven governor 9 or the usual speedometer, and energizes a solenoid 14 to close a spring-opened valve 16 cutting off and exhausting at 19 depression 6 from the diaphragm 12 which is then spring-returned to inoperative position.
