Abstract
804,525. Clutch control. FICHTEL & SACHS A.G. Feb. 9, 1955 [March 24, 1954], No. 3819/55. Class 80 (2). On a vehicle wherein, during gear shift by the usual manual lever 62, a main speed-respsionve clutch 11 is disengaged by a power cylinder 17 communicated with the engine inlet manifold 25 through ducts 22, 24 including a solenoid valve 23 energized (position shown), by a shiftlever-operated switch, the same valve 23 also applies engine suction 24 through a restrictor 47 to a spring-loaded diaphragm 40 which acts adjustably on an arm 32 on the engine throttle spindle 30 to ensure that, even if the accelerator pedal is released during gear-shift, the throttle 29 is automatically opened, as shown, sufficiently to raise the engine speed above that minimum necessary to engage the speed-responsive clutch 11, so that when, on completion of gear shift the power cylinder 17 is de-energized by the valve 23, the clutch re-engages solely under control of the power cylinder 17 which vents through an adjustable outlet 52. There is an adjustable turnbuckle 20 in the link to the clutch lever 15. The speed-responsive main clutch may be centrifugal, or generator-voltagecontrolled electromagnetic, or be operated by vacuum, pressure air or liquid, or electric servomotor.
