Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce fuel consumption, by autonatically disconnecting an engine from a transmission to coast an automobile after it is accelerated to a prescribed speed.
CONSTITUTION: A speedometer is provided with a photoelectric tube 13 for detecting an upper limit speed and a photoelectric tube 14 for detecting a lower limit speed. A clutch pedal 39 and an accelerator pedal 46 are connected to air cylinders 35, 42, respectively, so that the pedals 39, 46 can be operated without the driver. The air cylinders 35, 42 are operated by solenoid valves 33, 34 which are actuated by the photoelectric tubes 13, 14 through relays 21, 22. When the photoelectric tube 13 for the upper limit speed has acted, a clutch 38 is disengaged and a throttle 45 is put in the lowest position to perform coasting. When the photoelectric tube 14 for the lower limit speed has acted, the clutch is engaged and the throttle is put in a higher position to perform acceleration. Since coasting is effected, the revolution of an engine is minimized during constant-speed running to reduce fuel consumption.
