Abstract
857,892. Crates. PACKAGING RESEARCH Ltd. March 5, 1959 [March 12, 1958], No. 7924/58. Class 18. A crate has mounted within it a support member, e.g. a cradle 1, resiliently supported from the crate's internal surface 5 by a laminated leaf spring assembly 6 for damping out oscillation. As shown in Fig. 1, each side limb 7, 8 has an outwardly extending flange 9 connected to a securing plate 10 by chains 11 which keep an interposed coil spring 12 under compression, the plates 10 being secured fixed crate portions 13 ; a further part (not shown) of the cradle is secured by a leaf spring assembly to an adjacent crate wall surface. In a modification, Fig. 3, the support member comprises a frame of plywood sheets 22, each loosely sandwiched between two others and each having laminated leaf spring assemblies 24, 25 for which rubbing strips 26 can be provided on the walls of the crate 20. In a further embodiment the support member consists of a rectangular angle iron frame braced by corner brackets and provided at each side with leaf spring assemblies.
