857,678. Supplying current to rotating conductors. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 24,1959 [March 31,1958], No. 10285/58. Class 38(1) An electrical connection between relatively rotating inner and outer conductors 1, 2 comprises an annular liquid metal filled space 5 sealed by relatively rotating sealing and bearing members 6, 7 and means for applying a static pressure to the liquid metal said means including an external expansion space for the metal. As shown, the static pressure means includes a header tube 13 filled with liquid metal, e.g. mercury or gallium, up to a suitable height 14. The pressure means may comprise a piston acting in a cylinder replacing the tube 13 (Fig. 3, not shown), or a mercury reservoir, adjustable for height connected through a flexible pipe to the underside of the annulus (Fig. 2, not shown).
