Abstract

857,662. Vehicle bonnets. VAUXHALL MOTORS Ltd. Jan. 2, 1958 [Jan. 4, 1957], No. 392/57. Class 79(3). In a four wheel forward control truck designed to carry a load in a compartment behind the driver's cab 2 and wherein at least the front of the cab is forward of the front axle 7, the engine 3 is accommodated in a casing 4 which extends from the back of the cab, at least a part of the casing being hingeable about a horizontal axis. As shown the engine is located centrally between chassis members 1, the transverse width of the casing being less than that of the cab. The casing 4 comprises a top 5 hinged about a transverse axis 5a at the back of the cab and detachable side panels 6 or hinged doors. In a modification Figs. 4-6 (not shown) the engine casing comprises two similar halves upwardly hingeable about a central hinge axis which is longitudinal of the vehicle, the casing halves extending the full width of the cab.
