Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the general formula: <FORM:0857547/IV(b)/1> wherein A is a C1-8 alkylene group B is a basic nitrogen containing radical with fewer than twelve carbon atoms and acid addition salts thereof and the preparation thereof by reacting a 2-trifluoromethyl phenthiazine (with (a) a compound of the general formula: B-A-X. wherein X is a halogen atom (b) a C1-8 alkanoyl halide and reducing the resulting carbonyl compound. (c) a halo-(C1-8 alkanoyl) halide treating the resulting product with a compound BH and reducing the resulting compound or (d) a halo-(C1-8 alkanoyl) halide, reducing the alkanoyl halide and reacting the product with a compound BH, and the preparation of the acid addition salts by reacting the fire base with an approximately an equivalent of the acid. 10-[21-(N-211-Hydroxyl ethyl N-ethylamino)-ethyl]-2-tri fluoromethyl-phenthiazine is prepared by reacting N, N-di-(2-chloroethyl)-ethylamine with sodium benzylate and reacting the N-(2-benzyloxyethyl)-N-(21-chloroethyl) ethylamine with 2-tri-fluoromethyl phenthiazine and hydrogenating the resulting benzyloxy derivative. 2-and 4-Trifluoromethyl phenthiazines are prepared by reacting 3-trifluoromethyl diphenylamine with sulphur in the presence of iodine.
