Abstract
The invention comprises compounds of the general formula <FORM:0889749/IV (b)/1> wherein n is an integer from 2 to 10, and their acid addition salts. Specified such compounds are N : N1-di-(3 : 4-dichlorophenyl)- or -(3 : 4-di-chlorobenzyl) - o - aminocapro - and - propion - amides; N : N1-di-(3 : 4-dichlorophenyl)-o -aminoundecanoamide; o -(3 : 4-dichlorobenzylamino)-N-(3 : 4-dichlorophenyl)-capro- and undecano-amides; and the hydrochlorides thereof. The compounds of the invention are prepared by reacting 3 : 4-dichloroaniline or 3 : 4-dichlorobenzylamine with a o -haloalkanoyl halide X(CH2)nCO.X to give the o -halo-N-substituted alkanoamide and then reacting the latter with the same or different dichloroamine.ALSO:Bacteriostatic compositions comprise a compound of the general formula <FORM:0889749/VI/1> wherein n is an integer from 2 to 10, compounded with a major amount of either (a) a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier; or (b) a substance which assists the active substance in effecting contact with bacteria. For example, tablets may be prepared from a composition of the active substance together with a filler and a lubricating agent; or an ointment may be made by incorporating 2-10 wt. per cent of the active substance in a water-miscible greaseless base ointment as carrier.
