Abstract

The invention comprises non-toxic acid addition salts of compounds of the general formula <FORM:1046726/C2/1> (wherein R is a hydroxy or amino group and R11 is an ethyl or methyl group), and their preparation by standard methods. The preparation of 2-nitro-4,5-dimethoxy-x-methylphenethylamine and its nitrate and hydrochloride, 2 - amino - 4,5 - dimethoxy - x - methylphenethylamine dihydrochloride (containing methanol and water of crystallization), 1-(2,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl) - 2 - oximinopropane, 2,4,5 - trimethoxy - x - methylphenethylamine hydrochloride, 1 - (2,4,5 - trimethoxyphenyl) - 2 - nitrobutene - 1 and 2,4,5 - trimethoxy - x - ethylphenethylamine hydrochloride is described.ALSO:Pharmaceutical compositions comprise (a) a non-toxic acid addition salt of a compound of the formula <FORM:1046726/A5-A6/1> (wherein R is a hydroxy or amino group and R11 is an ethyl or methyl group) and a diluent, carrier or coating, or (b) a non-toxic acid addition salt of a compound of the formula <FORM:1046726/A5-A6/2> (wherein R is a hydroxy or amino group and R1 is a hydrogen atom) and a solid diluent, carrier or coating or a sterile injectable liquid diluent or carrier. The active ingredients are antihypertensives, and the compositions may be administered orally or by injection.
