Abstract
Synthetic plastics materials contain as an antistatic agent a compound of the formula <FORM:1103157/C3/1> where R is hydrogen, alkyl or alkenyl, n is 0 or 1 and R1 is hydrogen, alkyl or hydroxy-alkyl when n is 1 and hydrogen when n is 0. In an example, N - (2,3 - dihydroxypropyl) - stearamide is incorporated into high-density polyethylene to form a composition having good antistatic properties.ALSO:Compounds of the general formula <FORM:1103157/C2/1> where R is hydrogen, alkyl or alkenyl, n is 0 or 1, and R1 is hydrogen, alkyl or hydroxy-substituted alkyl when n is 1, and hydrogen when n is 0, are prepared by reacting an appropriate glycidyl ester of an organic acid containing an a -carbon, unbranched chain with a nitrogen compound of the formula R1(CH2)nNH2, preferably using excess amine. The compounds have antistatic properties.
