A trailer draw bar assembly comprises a draw bar 13, a rubber towing load ring 17, a buffing load compression spring 24, and in place of a pin through the draw bar is provided with a split metal ring 22 which engages with a groove 21 in the bar, an annular rebate 19 in a collar part 18, and with a collar washer 23 pressed by the spring 24. When a towing load is applied the ring 22 is pressed more tightly into the groove in the draw bar. The collar part 18 is also held by a set screw 33, and the top of the housing 16 is serrated to hold a brake lever pawl.
