Abstract

857,043. Brake drums. SCANIA-VABIS A.B. June 6, 1957 [June 7, 1956], No. 18096/57. Class 103 (1). [Also in Group XXV] A device for dampening noises in friction brakes, includes a band of rubber pressed against the rotary member of the brake by at least one tightening member, the pressure surface of the member being parallel to the surface of the rotary member engaged by the rubber band, the latter in the mounted position having a width several times greater than its thickness. A ring 7, which may comprise two members, is tightened by turnbuckles 8, 9 to hold a band 5, of silicon rubber, and of a high coefficient of friction, against the brake drum 6; the ring 7 may be of solid rectangular crosssection or any open cross-section providing it has great rigidity in the direction of pressure. The elastic band 5 may be in the form of rings held against a reinforcing member of the drum or held against either side of a disc by screws or similar members passing through the disc. '
