Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the formula: <FORM:0856710/IV(b)/1> (wherein the groups X, which are the same or different, are alkyl groups or hydrogen atoms, at least one being an alkyl group) and non-toxic acid-addition salts thereof; and their preparation by reacting morpholine with the appropriate crotonic acid anilide. The reaction is advantageously effected at elevated temperature, e.g. under reflux, with an excess of morpholine, the excess morpholine being subsequently removed by distillation. The preparation of the 2-methyl-, 3-methyl-, 4-methyl-, 2:6-dimethyl-, 2:3-dimethyl-and 2:4-dimethyl-anilides of beta-morpholino-butyric acid is described, some of the compounds being isolated as hydrochlorides. Sulphates, phosphates, tartrates and citrates of the compounds of the invention are also referred to. Specification 801,405 is referred to.ALSO:Anaesthetic compositions for parenteral administration comprise one or more compounds of the formula: <FORM:0856710/VI/1> (where in the groups X, which are the same or different, are alkyl groups or hydrogen atoms, at least one being an alkyl group) or non-toxic acid-addition salts thereof e.g. hydrochlorides, sulphates, phosphates, tartrates and citrates and carriers therefor. A suitable carrier is pyrogen free water. Specification 801,405 is referred to.
