Abstract

The invention comprises symmetrical diamino compounds of the general formula: <FORM:0791745/IV (b)/1> where R is alkyl, R1 is alkyl or hydrogen, Y is alkyl, aryl or substituted aryl and n is an integer and acid addition salts thereof. Preferred products comprise compounds of the above general formula in which Y is an alkoxy-or alkylenedioxy-substituted phenyl radical, n is an integer from 4 to 6 and R is an alkyl group containing 2 to 4 carbon atoms. The compounds are made by reacting the corresponding bis primary amine in which the amino groups are joined by a branched alkylene chain, with an aldehyde YCHO and hydrogen and if desired alkylating the product. Examples describe the preparation of N:N1-dipiperonyl - 3:8 - diaminodecane; N:N1 - dipiperonyl - 3:10 - diaminododecane; N:N1-di - (2 - ethylbutyl) - 3:10 - diaminododecane; N:N1 - dimethyl - N:N1 - di - (2 - ethylbutyl)-di - (2 - ethylbutyl) - 3:10 - diaminododecane; N:N1 - dimethyl - N:N1 - di - (2 - ethylbutyl)-3:10 - diaminododecane; N:N1 - dimethyl-N:N1 - dipiperonyl - 3:10 - diaminododecane; N:N1 - dipiperonyl - 5; 10 - diaminonotetradecane and N:N1 - dimethyl - N:N1 - dipiperonyl - 3:8 - diaminodecane, in the form of their dihydrochlorides.
