856,564. Retractive switches. HOUILLERES DU BASSIN DE LORRAINE. Dec. 10, 1957 [March 28, 1957], No. 38302/57. Class 38 (5). [Also in Group XXXVIII] A normally closed two-pole pulltype electrical switch for insertion between two lengths of cable is so arranged that when it is fixedly supported a pull on either cable opens both of its poles. It is stated that a plurality of these switches linked together by lengths of cable could be used for a signalling system in a mine shaft, a signal being produced by physically pulling any one of the lengths of cable. Pull on either of the two cables 27 attached to a switch causes lateral sliding motion of a spring-loaded unit 13, 21, 19, thereby moving two contacts 15, 16 away from a fixed member 9 of non-conductive material through which extends a central conductor 10 and an annular conductor 11 which co-operate with contacts similar to contacts 15, 16 in the other half of the switch. The annular conductor 11 together with a bearing 20 allow the member 13, 19 to rotate freely (to take up any twist in the cable) without affecting the electrical properties of the switch.
