Abstract

856,346. Heating feedwater. SOC. DES FORGES ET ATELIERS DU CREUSOT, and RICARD, P. J. June 18, 1957 [June 30, 1956], No. 19152/57. Class 64(1) Water from the condenser 4 of a steam turbine 1, 3 having a re-superheater 2, is heated in feedwater heaters 5, 6, 7 by steam 8, 9, 10 bled from the turbine and a fraction of the water is divided from the main flow in at least one heater, e.g. heater 5, to pass through a take-off 11 after being heated in a de-superheating portion 5b by the bled steam which then passes as saturated steam to a portion 5a in which the main water flow is heated. The divided fraction is reintroduced to the main water flow at that heater outlet which is at a temperature lower than that of the fraction and which is furthest downstream of the main flow. As shown, the reintroduction is at 12 downstream of the whole heating set but, if the temperature at this point is too high the reintroduction may be at 13 by the outlet of the heater 6. Fractions of the water may similarly be divided from the main flow in the heaters 6 and 7. There are condensed steam outlets 8a, 9a and 10a from the heaters. The divided fraction of water may be sub-divided in the de-superheating portion, Fig. 3 (not shown), one sub-fraction being further heated in the heater or even further divided. The extra streams being returned to the main flow further downstream. If the divided fraction is so hot as to be partly vaporized it is conveyed to the steam generator or to the saturated steam of the first feedwater heater in which the steam is hotter than the divided fraction. Steam enters a feedwater heater, Fig. 5, at 23 and condensate leaves at 24. The water enters a box header at 25 and after passing through the saturated steam portion 21 of the heater, a fraction divides and passes to the de-superheating portion 22 before passing to an outlet 27 adjacent the main outlet 26. In another form, Fig. 6 (not shown), there is one inlet header but separate outlet headers for the main and divided fractions of the water. If the feedwater heater is of the direct contact type, the divided fraction is heated in a separate heat exchanger to which the bled steam is fed before passing to the main heater, Fig. 7 (not shown).
