Abstract

10 to 150 parts of carbon black, 100 parts of polyethylene particles and 1 to 9 parts of water per part of carbon black are blended and then mechanically worked under high shear, e.g. in a Banbury mixer, until the polyethylene fluxes and the water is eliminated. Antioxidants such as thiobis (6-t-butyl-m-cresol) may also be present. The product may be used as a masterbatch for further compounding with polyethylene. The products find application as film, coatings and sheathings for wire and cable, as raincoats, garden-hose and ground covers, and as extruded pipe.
