Abstract

2-Nitrophenyl-4-keto-3, 1, 4-benzoxazines are prepared by condensing the sodium salt of anthranilic acid with o-, m,- or pnitrobenzoylchloride and treating the resulting amide with acetic anhydride, thus causing the loss of a molecule of water. By treating these benzoxazines with pyridine and concentrated ammonium hydroxide, nitrobenzoyl - anthranilamides are formed, which by boiling in dilute sodium hydroxide are converted into 2-nitrophenyl-4-quinazolones. Reduction with hydrogen and a nickel catalyst gives the corresponding 2-aminophenyl-4-quinazolones. The latter may be refluxed in dimethyl-formanide with an ester XCH2CO2Et (X is carboxylic acyl) to yield 2-(acyl-acetaminophenyl)-4-quinazolones. Reference is made to the preparation of such compounds wherein the acyl group X is benzoyl, a -furoyl, a -thienoyl, p-anisoyl or acetyl.
