855,987. Heat treating. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Dec. 19, 1958 [Dec. 24, 1957], No. 41067/58. Class 72 [Also in Group XI] In annealing work pieces which have highly different wall thicknesses in the direction of their major dimensions the thick-walled parts of the work piece are heated by one inductor and the thin walled parts by a second inductor. As shown, work pieces 6, e.g. cartridge cases, are fed from a channel 7 to holders 5 on a conveyer chain 4 driven by sprocket wheels 2, 3 so that thick walled portions enter the working space of an elongated induction loop 9 and are preheated to a temperature lying below the final desired value. The work pieces are then transferred by an ejector 11, positioned a short distance before the closed end of the loop 9, into the working space of a second inductor 12 which acts upon the whole work piece and heats to the desired final temperature the preheated portion of the work piece simultaneously with the thin-walled parts of the work piece.
