Abstract

941,932. Feeding and discharging workpieces into and from a furnace. DEUTSCHE EDELSTAHLWERKE A.G., and ALLGEMEINE ELEKTRICITATS-GES. Oct. 6, 1960 [Oct. 8, 1961], No. 34363/60. Heading B8A. Workpieces 1 in a magazine 2 are raised by endless chain 4 and delivered to shoot 5. Workpieces on shoot 5 are moved stepby-step leftwards on fixed beam 30 by means of walking beam 29 oscillated at 7. Each workpiece 4 now positioned at the left end of beam 30 is moved into position 12 ready for insertion into heating inductor 19, the movement being effected by means of lift 9 which in the same movement takes and raises a heated workpiece from position 12 and discharges it at position 13 where it is discharged leftwards by pusher 14 carried by carriage 15. Lift 9, as shown, receives a heated workpiece from heating inductor 19, is then raised so as to engage the cold workpiece positioned at the left end of the beam 30. Lift 9 now carrying both workpieces one hot and one cold moves leftwards to position 11 and then descends to permit the hot workpiece to be engaged and lifted off at 13 and the cold workpiece to be delivered at station 12 ready to be inserted into an inductor 19 as shown. Inductors 19 of which five are shown are carried by block 21 which is reciprocated in the direction shown left to right. Block 21 is therefore moved to the right to present another inductor at position 12, the hot workpiece therein is discharged by ejector 25, not shown, on to lift 9 into the left-hand position thereof, the left having moved rightwards in the meantime to the position shown so that the hot workpiece is positioned on lift 9 ready to re-perform the cycle. Block 21 is moved left and right by means of rotating crank 23 which engages the block at 24.
