Abstract
The invention comprises N-trihydrocarbon borazanes in which at least one of the hydrocarbon radicals contains two or more carbon atoms, e.g. triethyl borazane, N,N-dimethyl-N-cyclohexyl borazane and N,N-dimethyl-N-phenyl borazane. N-trihydrocarbon borazanes generally may be prepared by heating a boron compound R3B, in which R represents a hydrocarbon radical, with hydrogen under pressure at a temperature of more than 120 DEG C. in the presence of a tertiary amine of the general formula NR1R11R111, in which R1, R11 and R111 represent hydrocarbon radicals, e.g. aliphatic, hydroaromatic or aromatic hydrocarbon radicals. The process may be effected without solvents or with an inert solvent, for example, a saturated aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon, an ether or a boric acid ester. It is desirable to work at a pressure of more than 10 atm. An inert atmosphere, e.g. nitrogen, may be p used. In addition to the novel products specified, examples describe the preparation of N-trimethyl borazane, N,N-diethyl-N-n-butyl borazane, and N-tri-n-butyl borazane.
