Abstract

855,796 Electric tests. GILBERT & BARKER MANUFACTURING CO. Feb. 19, 1957 [April 10, 1956], No. 30069/59. Divided out of 855,795. Class 37. Apparatus for sensing the position of an interface between two liquids such as a petroleum product p and water w comprises a capacitative sensing element 1, controlled automatically to follow the interface by balancing the H.F. signal set up in it by an oscillator to which it is coupled by a single core coaxial cable 19, against a reference voltage, unbalance causing a reversible two-phase motor 4 to adjust the position of the element. The apparatus is generally similar to that described in Specification 750,858. The sensing element consists of a tubular shield containing a wire resonant at the oscillator frequency, the free end of which protrudes beneath the shield into the lower liquid and is sealed therefrom by an insulating material; such elements are the subject of Specification 855,795.
