Abstract

Bis-triazinylaminostilbene whitening agents of the formula: <FORM:0855480/IV(a)/1> wherein X is hydrogen or a cation, preferably an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal, may be incorporated as aqueous or organic solutions, as dispersions or in admixture with detergents into cellulose acetate, polyesters, polyamides or polyacrylonitriles from which fibres are produced.ALSO:The invention comprises bis-triazinylamino-stilbene whitening agents of the formula: <FORM:0855480/IV(b)/1> wherein X is hydrogen or a cation, preferably an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal. The compounds are prepared by reacting 1 mole of 4 : 41-diaminostilbene-2 : 21-disulphonic acid with 2 moles of cyanuric chloride and reacting the resulting product in either order of succession with 2 moles of diethanolamine and 2 moles of methylamine. The compounds may be used as aqueous or organic solutions, as dispersions or in admixture with detergents to treat textiles such as wool, regenerated or natural cellulose (e.g. cotton) cellulose acetate, polyesters, polyamides, polyacrylonitriles or the starting materials used for their production, plastics, resins, lacquers, soaps, leather and paper.ALSO:Bis-triazinylaminostilbene whitening agents of the formula: <FORM:0855480/IV (c)/1> wherein X is hydrogen or a cation, preferably an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal, may be used as aqueous or organic solutions, as dispersions or in admixture with detergents to treat textiles such as wool, regenerated or natural cellulose (e.g. cotton), cellulose acetate, polyesters, polyamides and polyacrylonitriles, and also leather and paper.ALSO:Bis-triazinylaminostilbene whitening agents of the formula: <FORM:0855480/III/1> wherein X is hydrogen or a cation, preferably an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal, are added to soaps.
