Abstract

The invention comprises the compounds of formula <FORM:1010759/C2/1> where R1 to R4 are hydrogen or C1- 4 alkyl, n1 to n4 are 2 or 3, and Y is a cation; and their production by condensing cyanuric chloride with 4,41 - diaminostilbene - 2,21 - disulphonic acid, or a salt thereof, and at least one appropriate aminoalkane-sulphonic acid, or a salt thereof, in a molar ratio of 2 : 1 : 4, in any sequence, and, if desired, converting the products into salts, e.g. alkali metal or ammonium salts. The compounds of the invention are brightening agents (see Division D1).ALSO:Textile materials and paper are brightened by treating with a compound of formula <FORM:1010759/D1-D2/1> where R1 to R4 are hydrogen or C1-4 alkyl, Y is a cation and n1 to n4 are 2 or 3 (see Division C2), e.g. in solution in organic solvdnts or in solution or suspension in water. Examples treat paper, polycaprolactam fibres and wool with aqueous solutions of the brightening agent; acetic acid may also be present.
