Abstract

Brightening agents contain compounds of the formula <FORM:1041530/C2/1> wherein X represents a hydrogen atom or a cation. These compounds are prepared by condensing 2 mol cyanuric chloride, 1 mol 4,41- diaminostilbene-2,21-disulphonic acid, 2 mol iso-propyl alcohol and 2 mol N-methyl-ethanolamine together and, i desired, converting the product into a salt, e.g. an alkali metal or ammonium salt.ALSO:Textiles, especially those of synthetic polyamides, are brightened by applying a compound of formula <FORM:1041530/D1-D2/1> where X is H or a cation. In an Example, a fabric made from the polycondensate of e -caprolactam is treated at 80-90 DEG C. with an aqueous liquor containing the compound in the form of the sodium salt, and formic acid.
