Abstract

855,342. Transistor amplifier circuits. MULTITONE ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Jan. 4, 1957 [Oct. 5, 1955], No. 28377/55. Class 40(6). A junction transistor amplifier has a load in the emitter circuit and comprises a bias circuit consisting of a rectifier having one side connected through a capacitor to the emitter and the other side connected to the supply so that an increase mean current flows through the transistor as the signal amplitude increases. In Fig. 1 bias is applied to the base of the transistor from a capacitor and rectifier circuit C, M connected across the load terminals L1, L2, a small standing bias being obtained from a potentiometer R1, R2 to prevent distortion at low signal levels. One of the resistors may be temperature sensitive so as to stabilize the transistor operation. In an alternative circuit (Fig. 2 not shown) the resistor R2 is connected in series with the rectifier, while in Fig. 3 (not shown) a resistor is connected in parallel with the rectifier so that the zero signal current is still small even at high temperatures. The invention may also be applied to push pull amplifiers.
