Abstract
855,337. Photographic cameras. GAUTHIER G. m. b. H.,A. March 15, 1957 [March 15, 1956], No. 8652/57. Class 98(1) In a photographic camera having either the shutter speed setting member or the diaphragm setting member coupled with the follow-up member of an exposure meter, the diaphragm may be set for flash exposures in dependence on the distance of the subject and the power of the flash, for a given shutter speed, or vice versa, by means of a range scale and a flash power scale which are adjustable relatively to each other with one scale fixed and the other on the follow-up member, or with both scales on the follow-up member, the movable scale being adjusted either with respect to the fixed scale or with respect to a fixed index mark or an index mark on the follow-up member being adjusted with respect to the fixed scale. As shown in Figure 2, an exposure meter carried by or built into a camera has a rotatable disc 14 geared to a wheel 11 having a lug 11a engaging a pin 10, which bears on one end of a bell-crank lever 7, the other end of which bears on a pin 4. A spring 16 tends to turn wheel 11 anti-clockwise, so that pin 4 is urged into contact with a cam (not shown) connected to the diaphragm setting ring of the camera. For ordinary exposures, the shutter speed is set to a required value, and the diaphragm setting. ring is rotated until the disc 14 is brought to a position wherein the meter pointer 17 registers with the required shutter speed on the scale 18, with the aid of guide lines 50. The scale 18 is carried by a ring 24 rotatably connected to the disc 14 and carrying a scale of filter factors 21. The ring 24 is adjusted until the appropriate mark on scale 21 is brought opposite the appropriate mark on a scale 20 of film speeds on the disc 14. For flash exposures, the diaphragm is adjusted until the appropriate mark on a range scale 22 marked on ring 24, is brought opposite the appropriate mark on a scale 23 of flash power. Scale 23 is mounted on a fixed part of the camera, and may carry marks indicating types of flash bulb. A movable pointer may be adjusted between the scales 22, 23. The scales may be differently arranged as between the fixed and moving parts. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the disc 14 carries two movable rings 31, 33. The film speed scale 20 on disc 14 is visible through the cutout 31a in ring 31, and co-operates with the filter factor scale 21 on ring 33. An arm 37 on ring 33 has a pin 70 entering notches 14a in disc 14 to keep ring 33 and disc 14 in their relatively adjusted position. Ring 31 is rotated to bring the appropriate value on its flash power scale 23 opposite an index 35 of ring 33, and the disc 14 is then rotated together with rings 31, 33 to bring the appropriate value on the range scale 22 opposite an index 36 on the camera body. The scales and index marks may be interchanged if required.
