Abstract

883,679. Cameras. GAUTHIER G.m.b.H. ALFRED. Aug. 14, 1959 [Sept. 26, 1958], No. 27800/59. Class 98(1). A photographic camera comprises setting devices for the lens aperture and exposure time, these devices being coupled by a differential gear, the intermediate gear part of which is mounted on a movable carrier: the above arrangement is such that, when the exposure time has been pre-set the lens aperture is set automatically, the exposure time setting device remaining stationary, by the movement of the gear carrier which is controlled by a stop associated with a light intensity measuring device. As shown in Fig. 1, a ring 1 controls the shutter speed setting (read on scale 3) and its movement is limited by stops 7. A ring 2 controls the diaphragm aperture over a range indicated by scale 5 and controlled by stops 7. A film sensitivity indicator 10 may be coupled to the ring 1 by means of an end 13a of a rod 13 engaging notches in the ring 10. These rings can be uncoupled by pressing rod 13 so that end 13a releases ring 10 but engages a part 8c of a rod 8 which carries a ratchet wheel 9 which is part of the differential gearing connecting rings 1, 2, 10 when operating the device ring 10 is set to the required value relative to shutter speed setting ring 1, but movement of ring 10 causes ring 2 to move. Ring 10 is connected via cam surface 10c and pin 31 to a device, for example two pointers, which co-operates with the pointer A (not shown) of a light intensity measuring device so that only if the pointer A is between the other two pointers can the ring 2 be set to an aperture within the operational range of the camera. If the above adjustment of ring 10 causes the pointer A to move outside the region between the two pointers, ring 1, when coupled to ring 10, can be moved to bring it back into that region. The diaphragm aperture may be set automatically by arranging that the rod 8 is spring urged to the left (Fig. 1) but is held by a pawl 40a connected through a delay device to the shutter release knob, until the shutter is released. The distance rod 8, and hence the diaphragm control ring 1, is moved and controlled by a stop 16a which engages one of a number of steps 8a on the rod 8 (Fig. 2) the position of-stop 16a being determined by a light meter which causes lever 16 to rotate about point 17.
