Heading G2A. Automatic camera diaphragm control means comprise an exposure meter which is rotatable according to the setting of the shutter speed and the position of an abutment surface on a detachable objective which is indicative of the maximum aperture thereof. On depression of the camera release 22, a lever 18 clamps the meter pointer 8 and a lever 128 releases the setting mechanism which runs down until an arm 86 is arrested by pointer 8. Arm 106 moves around the lens axis allowing the diaphragm ring 62 to be adjusted by a spring 68. A push rod 42 operated by a cam 46 on the shutter speed ring rotates the meter relative to a scale 83 through the gear train 26. When an objective with a different maximum aperture is fitted an abutment thereon shifts a push rod 44 to rotate the meter in a similar fashion. In this case scale 83 is similarly rotated through a linkage 76, 78, 80, 82 so that pointer 8 remains registered with the same division of scale 83 and the maximum aperture of the new objective is in the first sensing position of arm 86. Film speed is allowed for by setting a scale 52, causing cam 46 to rotate the meter accordingly. In a position for manual setting, a cam 142 disengages a clutch 108, 110.
