Class 98(1) A photographic lens shutter has a narrow speed setting member which is adjustable to any one of a number of setting marks corresponding to different detent positions to provide for different exposure times, and a locking device is provided inside the shutter housing and is controlled by the movement of detent means associated with the speed setting member, so that the locking device prevents the release of the shutter when the shutter is in set position and when the shutter speed setting member is in a position other than one of the detent positions. As shown, the graduated shutter speed setting ring 2 has notches 2a for engagement by a lug 9a on a spring-urged lever 9 when the index 5 registers with one of the graduations. If the ring is rotated so that the index 5 is not so registered, lug 9a rides on the surface 2b, between adjacent notches, and lever 9 is thereby so positioned that a lug 9b engages a pin 11 on the shutter trigger 6 and holds the latter fast. In another form, the latching lever 9 is operated by a pivoted intermediate lever rockable by a spring-urged lever having a pin for engagement with the detent notches 2a in the speed setting ring 2.
