Abstract

Class 86 [Also in Groups VI and XXX] Different sorts of sifted waste tobacco are delivered into hoppers 11, Fig. 1, from which a pneumatic conveyer 13 feeds them to bins 15 motor-driven feeders 16 of which form a tobacco blend on a belt 17 delivering to a hopper 18 having a float switch 19 controlling the feeders 16 and belt 17. A motordriven feeder 21 and its controlling feed-scale belt 22 deliver the blend to a multi-stage hammer, ball or impact mill 23 from which a pneumatic conveyer 26 draws it off, finely divided, to a bin 24. A further feeder 28 and controlling belt 29 deliver the blend to a mixer 30 also receiving from a tank 31 an aqueous solution or mixture of binder and sugar-humectant. Cellulose fibres such as alpha-cellulose flock or shredded cigarette paper may be added to the blend on belt 29. The mixture is passed to a dispersing machine 35 which may be a pressure muller, vacuum impregnator, pug mill, extrusion apparatus or centrifugal mixer, and from which it is passed by a pneumatic conveyer 38 to a bin 40 supplying via a motor-driven feeder 41 a pneumatic storage system 44 (see Group XXX) delivering to further treating means (see Group VI).
