Abstract
649,249. Mixing appliances; pulverizing. FERGUSON & SONS, Ltd., J., and EDE, S. A. Dec. 2, 1949, No. 31045. [Classes 59 and 861 In a continuous process for compounding and mixing materials in the production of plastic moulding powder the materials are conveyed from a blender to the rolls of a mill from which the material is removed in sheet form and continuously conveyed into a pulverizer. As shown, the process is carried out by apparatus in which a blender 7, Fig. 1, a conveyer 13 and a hopper 15 feed the material to the rolls 17, 18 of a mill 19 in which the materials are mixed, compounded and sheeted whilst being deflected axially along the rolls to a point from which a continuous strip of the material is removed and fed to a pulverizer 34, Fig. 2. Prior to dropping into the pulverizer the strip is air cooled on a conveyer 30 and is broken into small pieces by means of a small endless belt 35 which co-operates with the end of the. conveyer belt 33. The pulverizer comprises a rotor 34a carrying pivoted beaters 34b and is provided with an elevator 39 for returning to the pulverizer the coarser material delivered to a sieve 36. Dust extracted from the pulverizer by a blower 43 is delivered to a bin 44 and .dust is also collected by a bin 41 beneath the sieve 36. The material in powdered form is retained by a sieve screen 36b and is delivered by a conveyer 46 to the blender 47.
