854,459. Aircraft. VICKERS-ARMSTRONGS (AIRCRAFT) Ltd. Feb. 5, 1957 [Feb. 10, 1956], No. 4321/56. Class 4. Aircraft as described in Specification 832,760 with wings movable from a swept-forward lowspeed position to a swept-aft position for supersonic flight has auxiliary means for sweeping the wings rapidly with small amplitude to manoeuvre the craft. Wings B1, B2 pivoted at C1, C2 are rotated slowly by motors 25 each driving a worm 26 engaging a segment 18 to the swept-aft or swept-forward position appropriate to speed of the aircraft. For manoeuvring, hydraulic jacks 23 rapidly rotate the wings, together with the motors 25 and worm-drives, about the pivots C1, C2, through small angles, in a common direction to effect control in pitch and differentially to effect control in roll.
