Abstract

Dilute solutions of alcohols in hydrocarbons which contain catalyst residues from their use in the washing of polymers, are treated with gaseous ammonia and the precipitated catalyst residues and any dissolved ammonia are subsequently separated whereby the alcohol/hydrocarbon solution is ready for re-use. The method is suitable for the removal of halogen containing aluminium and titanium compounds from washing solutions, such as 5% propanol in cyclohexane, which have been used in the purification of polyolefines obtained by Ziegler low pressure processes.ALSO:Dilute solutions of alcohols in hydrocarbons which contain catalyst residues from their use in the washing of polymers (e.g. polyolefines produced by Ziegler catalysts), are treated with gaseous ammonia to precipitate the catalyst residues.
