Abstract

853,356. Friction clutches. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO. Ltd. Nov. 26, 1958 [Dec. 24, 1957], No. 40004/57. Class 80 (2). In a friction clutch of the kind wherein a driven disc 12 is clamped between a sliding flywheel 10 and pressure plate 13 by springs 15, heat insulating asbestos pads 28 are arranged between the springs and pressure plate, and are carried in pairs in apertures in two outer discs 29, 32 separated by an inner disc 31. The discs 29, 31, 32 are held concentric with the pressure plate 13 by lugs 25 thereon which engage recesses in the discs. The disc 29 bears against radial ribs 34 arranged symmetrically in pairs on the pressure plate, and the apertures in the disc 32 are formed with rims 36 which locate the end of the springs 15. A cover plate 16 is fixed to a rim 18 on the flywheel 10 which rim is slotted, Fig. 1 (not shown), to facilitate the flow of cooling air between the discs 29, 31, 32 and pressure plate 13.
