Abstract
865,948. Friction clutches. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. (Ford Werke A.G.). April 2, 1959, No. 11245/59. Class 80 (2). In a friction clutch for a motor vehicle wherein a driven disc 12 is clamped between a flywheel 10 and presser plate 11 by a radially slotted diaphragm spring 26 fulcrumed between an abutment 34 on a cover-plate 20 fast with the flywheel 10 and a wire ring 31 retained by tongues 30 on the cover-plate, the presser plate 11 is connected to the coverplate 20, or flywheel, by a circumferentially corrugated disc 33 which centres the pressure plate and biases it towards the disengaged position, and has the diaphragm spring rigidly connected with axially resilient lugs 24 of a ring 22 fast with the flywheel 10. Projections 37 on the presser-plate 11 pass with clearance through apertures 38 in the cover-plate which connection transmits drive to the presser-plate if the corrugated disc 33 breaks. The corrugated disc 33 is apertured (Fig. 2, not shown), and the presser-plate 11 recessed at 36 to facilitate the circulation of cooling air.
