994,283. Friction clutches. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO. Ltd. Feb. 4, 1964 [Feb. 15, 1963], No. 6281/63. Heading F2C. In a diaphragm spring-engaged clutch for internal-combustion engines, the spring 35 is fulcrumed at its inner, or outer, peripheral edge on a bead 33 formed on an engine flywheel hub 12, or on the flywheel 18 itself, fast on the engine crank-shaft 10, and acts at the outer, or inner, diameter through a thrust plate 31 and a pressure plate 26 which are arranged on opposite sides of the flywheel 18 and connected by axial posts 28 passing through clearance holes therein, the pressure plate 26 clamping a clutch disc 25, splined on a hollow output shaft 11, into engagement with the inner face of the flywheel 18. The thrust plate 31 is connected to the flywheel 18 by equally spaced tangentially arranged flexible straps 44, and the clutch is disengaged through a throw-out bearing 43. The diaphragm spring is retained and concentrically located on the flywheel or thrust plate by resilient clips, or lugs, secured to or integrally formed thereon.
