Abstract
853,253. Endless-chain conveyers. OHRNELL, O. Sept. 24, 1958 [Sept. 25, 1957], No. 30561/58. Class 78 (1). In an endless-chain overhead conveyer for use in the continuous manufacture of industrial products, e.g. ready-made clothing, each garment is hung on a carrier 8, Fig. 5, which can be attached by the hook 16 to hook means 7, Fig. 1, provided on the conveyer 2 at any working station after sliding down an inclined bar 10 and discharged at any other station on to a reversely-inclined bar 9, Fig. 2, means being provided for automatically moving the hook 16 into engagement with the hook 7 and disengaging it therefrom at the stations. Each bar 10 has latches 11, 12, 13 for retaining a carrier until an empty hook 7 is in line with it. The latch 11 is released by an electromagnet 14 when a contact on the conveyer framework, slightly in advance of the bar 10 in the direction of movement of the conveyer, is actuated by the hook 7. This actuation has no effect if a carrier 8 is on the hook, because said carrier will have already actuated a contact in series with the first-mentioned contact to open the circuit. The latch 11 is released when the supporting arm 23 is raised by the engagement of a roller 21 mounted on the hook 7 with a cam surface 22. Each carrier 8 has a vertical shank 26 provided with a series of holes 27 which correspond with the various stations. A plug inserted into the appropriate hole will cause the energization of an electromagnet 24 at the selected station which moves a projection 28 into the path of a projection 29 on the hook 7. This projection is locked in this position by the engagement of a pivoted arm 31 with a recess in it and is disengaged to release the carrier when a projection 30 on the hook comes into contact with it. When any bar 9 is filled, a switch on it is actuated to open the circuit of the electromagnet 24 to prevent the release of any more carriers at this station. Specification 746,422 is referred to.
