A roller 9 frictionally rotatable in a support member 1 attached near the bottom of a door 3 is resiliently urged into peripheral contact with the floor 20 and rotates when the door is moved to restrain its movement. The axis of the roller is substantially horizontal and preferably converges with the plane of the door towards the hinge axis of the latter. The roller is mounted on a bolt 10 carried by the arms 7, 8 of the support member which provide friction surfaces co-operating with the flanged ends 15, 16, of bushes 13, 14, located in the axial bore of the roller. Projections 18 on the flanges penetrate the material of the roller to secure the bushes, and a space 17 between the bushes permits the roller to contract slightly when the wing nut 11 is tightened to adjust the friction. A tongue 19 on the arm 8 prevents relative rotation between the supporting member and the bolt. The support member, which is formed of spring steel, has strengthening ribs 4 stamped therein, and a length of wire 12 (Fig. 3) is located in the hollow of the rib nearest the edge of the door so that the roller axis is set at the required angle with the plane of the door. Means such as toggle levers 44, 46, may be provided for retracting the roller to an inoperative position. In a modification the support member is formed from a substantially U-shaped piece of spring wire, the arms of which are bent at their outer ends to support the bolt 10 and are coiled intermediate their ends to urge the roller against the floor. In a further modification the support member comprises two telescopically arranged sections urged apart by a spring. The roller may be made of rubber, or a plastic material covered with a rubber sleeve.
