The movement of the longitudinal carriage 1 of a screw-cutting lathe is controlled by a follower 4 on the carriage which is held against a face a of a rotatable pitch-cam 3 by a spring- urged roller 6 co-operating with a face b parallel to face a. Fur cutting screws of oppositehand, the member 13, attached to carriage 1 and carrying the rollers 4, 6 &c. is reversed, together with the cam 3, so that the face a will traverse the carriage in the opposite direction. The roller 6 is releasable from cam 3 by a bolt 11 to allow removal of the rollers &c. from the cam. Specification 726,096 is referred to.
