Abstract
852,558. Pistons. GLACIER METAL CO. Ltd. May 7, 1959 [May 8, 1958; July 9, 1958], Nos. 14813/58 and 22069/58. Class 122 (1). In a piston and bearing-ring assembly the bearing-ring 45 is formed of two or more arcuate segments and is secured in a recess 41 in the piston skirt 40 by a keeper-ring 43, opposite undercut surfaces 42 and 44 on the skirt and keeper-ring respectively engaging co-operating surfaces on the bearing-ring. The keeper ring 43 may be formed of arcuate segments independently secured to the piston. Each bearing- ring segment may comprise a steel backing with a layer 46 of bearing material or a steel backing, an intermediate bronze layer and an outer layer of copper-lead.
