Abstract

852,292. Sceew-cutting. GUIDO, J. Feb. 6, 1957 [Feb. 22, 1956], No. 4128/57. Class 83 (3). Mechanism for cutting a screw-thread on a non-rotating workpiece comprises a rotatable and axially-movable chaser and a concentricallymounted cam-disc for moving the tool, which is rotated at a speed different from that of the tool. A thread-cutting tool 7 is carried by a shaft 1 rotated by a belt pulley 5. The toolholding part may be pivoted to feed the tool, or may be arranged in an inclined guide for this purpose. Axial movement for the screwcutting is obtained from a cam 14 integral with a gear 13 and coaxial with the shaft 1, but separately supported. A follower 17 secured to the shaft is maintained against the cam by a spring 18. The cam is rotated relative to the shaft 1 by a gear 10, fixed thereto, driving a gear 12a, 12b on a countershaft 11. A further gear 15a, 15b on the countershaft, having a one-tooth difference from the wheel 12a, 12b, drives the cam-gear 13. The wheels 12a, 12b and 15a, 15b are in two parts, with springs for taking up backlash.
